Academic stress is a condition of mental or emotional strain brought by the expectations and
pressures coming through the demands of the educational setting. Many descriptive studies
have been conducted to determine the degree of academic stress that students encounter, and
have found that undergraduates experience moderate to severe levels of stress due to the
expectations and pressures coming through the demands of the educational setting.
Accordingly, this narrative review is intended to analyze the literature with the objective of
identifying the factors affecting academic stress, the impact of stress on academic performance,
academic satisfaction, psychological well-being, and physical health. Lastly, this review aims
to discover different stress-coping strategies highlighted in the existing literature. The
accomplishment of these objectives will raise awareness of the importance of academic stress
among educators, legislators, and mental health professionals, consequently improving
university students' overall well-being.
